An extra view for a coordinated search
Thermal and daylight cameras can help check open ground, field edges and tracks for a missing animal. A heat signature can draw attention to an area for a closer visual check, with useful location information shared with authorised searchers.
Information needed before a flight
- The last confirmed location and time
- A description of the missing animal or search subject
- Terrain, landowner access and relevant permissions
- Hazards, roads, power lines and nearby properties
- Other search teams already operating in the area
Conditions affect the view
Cooler ground can improve thermal contrast. Dense vegetation, buildings, warm surfaces, distance and weather can limit detection. A drone cannot guarantee a find.
Safe coordination with ground teams
Flights depend on airspace, visibility, privacy, permissions and safe separation from people and other aircraft. Where an established search organisation, police or emergency services are involved, operations must be coordinated with them.
Report a missing-person incident or immediate danger to the appropriate emergency services first.
